Excited about Xcite

Now I can say it: just got a contract for my short story “Corrections” which will be coming out soon from Xcite Books. Now with a title like that, you might not be surprised to learn that someone gets spanked, heh heh!

Tomorrow I’ll be a guest on fellow Ravenous writer Lana Griffin’s blog, writing about sex and gender and writing. Be there! And don’t forget to drop by UnBound for the usual Ravenous Romance Wednesday! They’re always a hoot and there are plenty of drinks for everyone.

Three Cherries!

Chas CoverOver at Whipped Cream there’s a very nice (and favourable!) review of Chastity Flame. Reviewer Carnation ended her review with:

Chastity Flame is full of sexual tension, and has a twist that I honestly was not expecting. The adventures in the storyline kept me coming back to read more, and I was quite satisfied with the ending. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you firmly in your seat, then this one is the one!

A thoughtful review that provides useful feedback. I have to re-read the beginning and figure out what might have made it confusing. Writers are always looking for ways to improve.

I have been busy of late, but a lot of it is under wraps — hush, hush, secrets, something Chastity herself would understand, eh? I am trying to get moving on the sequel, but I’ve had an unfortunate week of illness that has thrown my life out of joint a bit. Trying to play catch up and get a bunch of submissions sent off. Keep your fingers crossed for me and my cohorts!

Ravenous: Happy Year One!

Ravenous Romance celebrates its first birthday today! Congratulations to Lori and Holly for an exciting new adventure that has led to success for many. Check out the links on the left to many of my fellow RR authors who are reminiscing about what that year has brought. Of course I’m very grateful for my many stories that have come out with Ravenous, especially my erotic thriller novel Chastity Flame!

Albacon Wrap-Up

It was a crazy and fun-filled Albacon this year. Of course one of the most fun parts was having a chance to catch up with the wonderful Liz Hand. Fortunately, I’ll see her the end of the month, too, at the Poe conference at UMass Amherst (no, I don’t have many details to give — one of the things we both hoped the other knew more about. Well, surprises can be nice, too). She read from her forthcoming story “The Maiden Voyage of Macauley’s Bellerephon” which held the audience enraptured. I can’t wait to read the whole thing.

Things kicked off Thursday night with a new event. Jackie Kessler hosted an editors and agent panel. It was informative and well-attended despite not being part of the “traditional” con. New and experienced writers found a lot of information and had questions a-plenty. Afterward, Debi Chowdhury and I hosted a tarot card reader party (thanks so much Donna for coming to read!). It was a lot of fun and we met lots of people.

Friday was also a new event: the writers conference. Brainstormed by Debi and coordinated and scheduled by the indefatigable Susan Hanniford Crowley, it featured all kinds of panels and workshops like Toni Andrews’ “Five Fixes” for your manuscript, the fabulous Stella Price‘s “Promotion for the Author on a Budget” and Jackie Kessler’s “How to Write a Query Letter” — all of which went over very well with the eager writers and writers-to-be. I was on panels about Urban Fantasy and Using Mythology. There was a big signing at 3 o’clock, but that’s when I had to run off to give my paper across town on Beowulf: Prince of Geats at the 24th International Conference on Medievalism over at Siena College.

I got back in time for dinner and then the ice cream social. Stayed up way too late yakking and having fun, meeting for the first time fellow Ravenous writer Debra Hyde, whom I’d only known on-line. Saturday was a jam-packed day of panels and readings. Fortunately I was only on one panel, so I didn’t have to be too bubbly after the craziness of the day before. It was perhaps not the thing to do for con com members to do, but some of us skipped the banquet and went to Plum Blossom for dinner and it was worth it. Debra and Debi and Susan and I hosted an erotic reading in Debi’s room that night which went on ’til quite late and everyone seemed to have a terrific time. Debra brought fabulous gift bags to help promote the Ravenous writers, so I’m sure we’ll be remembered fondly!

Sunday everyone was dragging a little bit, but there was a good showing for the panel appreciating Charles Brown. Liz, David Hartwell, Brett Cox and Ron Drummond reminisced about their own memories of Brown while explaining his importance to the field of speculative fiction as a whole, not just as editor of Locus, but as a cheerleader for the genres. Even after all the panels were done, we couldn’t all drag ourselves away, so Ruth and Debi and I went out for sushi at Sushi Tei. Yum!

Reviewed by Manic Readers

Over at the Manic Readers blog, there’s a review of the anthology MEN IN SHORTS by Stephanie Wilson, who not only gives a fine review to the collection, but also comments on individual stories. Of my story “Ranger Danger” she says:

Christine is on a trip with the Junior League to a nature conservatory. Ranger Tom Rafferty is the one giving the lecture. While it is a learning experience, all Christine can do is fantasize about the young man.
Who doesn’t love a man with a naughty sense of humor? Trust me, this is one lecture you will pay attention to all the way through.

Check out the rest of the review for more comments on the collection of which Wilson says, “It is amazing that I didn’t achieve spontaneous combustion after reading these sinfully wicked tales.” Hee hee!

Chas: Half Price TODAY!

Today only, Chastity Flame is HALF PRICE! Chas is the Five Star Book of the Day because of her glowing reviews, like Coffee Time Romance and More’s 5 Cup review and Un:Bound’s recent kudos for this Bond-like adventurer.

I know some folks will be delighted to know that after some delays caused by my busy academic career, I am back at work on the sequel to Chas, tentatively entitled LE PETITE MORT. Yes, the dishy Damien will return, but how are the lovers going to get around Monitor’s rules about no fraternising between agents? And what brings Chastity to the swinging London sex club for women — other than the obvious reasons, LOL! Ravenous fans with a sharp eye will notice some cameo appearances by familiar faces…

Speaking of treats, you can read my shortie “Stacks” in WildFire, the All Romance eBooks newsletter for Sept 4, 2009. As the title suggests, this is a quickie set in a library. Enjoy!

KISSED Reviewed: Dark Divas

Dark Diva Reviews has given a FOUR Delightful Divas rating to I KISSED A GIRL! In addition to an overall assessment, reviewer Melissa offers reviews of some of the individual tales. For my story “Freckles” she says:

My Review of Freckles: Ms. Kempe has written a quick, very hot story in Freckles. Lea seems to be a practical woman, while Keegan is just a slob. I really liked Bridey, with her fun, outgoing personality. The passion between Lea and Bridey is explosive, and, well, Keegan is still a slob.

She’s right!

Melissa gives kudos to other stories like Inara La Vey’s “Champagne” and Regina Perry’s “Defining Lines” as well as saying of the entire collection that, “each story is very erotic and well-written. I would recommend this book to be kept handy, say on your nightstand, for those nights that you need a quick story to get your motor running.”

Yay!null
