Review: Spinning Gold

Elisabeth B. over at Bitten by Books has reviewed Spinning Gold, my Noble Romance Naughty Nibble, and had some good things to say about it:

“Spinning Gold” was an amusing take on the old Rumpelstiltskin tale where a young maiden is doomed to try and spin straw into gold – only this time around, that maiden is actually a man. It was interesting to consider that though Frea was genetically male, he lived his life as a woman and was highly skilled with textiles. The root of his father’s boast were grounded in actual mastery, and yet the drunkard gave no care as to how his behavior would affect his son. The story took on a more sexual bent than the traditional story and yet it seemed almost as innocent. The twists and turns at the end were both surprising and pleasing, if somewhat convenient. I enjoyed reading this…

Read the rest over at Bitten by Books and be sure to leave a comment to let them know you were there. It’s a delight to have reviews that are as detailed as this, particularly for a short story, and that show such knowledge of the genres. Yes, I do have a thing about folk and fairy-tales and I’m glad some other folks do, too.

I’m at work on two more short fairy tale stories and I have another with Jill at Noble. Fingers crossed that she likes them all: I look forward to having a nice collection of steamy and magical tales!

Three Cherries!

Chas CoverOver at Whipped Cream there’s a very nice (and favourable!) review of Chastity Flame. Reviewer Carnation ended her review with:

Chastity Flame is full of sexual tension, and has a twist that I honestly was not expecting. The adventures in the storyline kept me coming back to read more, and I was quite satisfied with the ending. If you’re looking for a book that will keep you firmly in your seat, then this one is the one!

A thoughtful review that provides useful feedback. I have to re-read the beginning and figure out what might have made it confusing. Writers are always looking for ways to improve.

I have been busy of late, but a lot of it is under wraps — hush, hush, secrets, something Chastity herself would understand, eh? I am trying to get moving on the sequel, but I’ve had an unfortunate week of illness that has thrown my life out of joint a bit. Trying to play catch up and get a bunch of submissions sent off. Keep your fingers crossed for me and my cohorts!

Check out the fabulous review by Eliza Rolle for my Noble Romance Naughty Nibble, “Spinning Gold”. Here’s a snippet:

This is only a short story, less than 25 pages, and obviously it can’t be so much developed, but nevertheless it’s a nice tale. Here obviously it can’t be arisen the old question of the chick in boy dress, since it’s clear that Freawyine is a boy who behaves like a girl: he was raised in that way, he is aware to be a boy, he is even well aware of his body desires, and not at all ashamed to satisfy them all alone in his bed, but for all the other side of his personality he is a girl. He likes boys, he thinks and behaves as a girl, he is not daring or strong, and he is fragile and delicate.

Reviewed by Manic Readers

Over at the Manic Readers blog, there’s a review of the anthology MEN IN SHORTS by Stephanie Wilson, who not only gives a fine review to the collection, but also comments on individual stories. Of my story “Ranger Danger” she says:

Christine is on a trip with the Junior League to a nature conservatory. Ranger Tom Rafferty is the one giving the lecture. While it is a learning experience, all Christine can do is fantasize about the young man.
Who doesn’t love a man with a naughty sense of humor? Trust me, this is one lecture you will pay attention to all the way through.

Check out the rest of the review for more comments on the collection of which Wilson says, “It is amazing that I didn’t achieve spontaneous combustion after reading these sinfully wicked tales.” Hee hee!

Chas: Half Price TODAY!

Today only, Chastity Flame is HALF PRICE! Chas is the Five Star Book of the Day because of her glowing reviews, like Coffee Time Romance and More’s 5 Cup review and Un:Bound’s recent kudos for this Bond-like adventurer.

I know some folks will be delighted to know that after some delays caused by my busy academic career, I am back at work on the sequel to Chas, tentatively entitled LE PETITE MORT. Yes, the dishy Damien will return, but how are the lovers going to get around Monitor’s rules about no fraternising between agents? And what brings Chastity to the swinging London sex club for women — other than the obvious reasons, LOL! Ravenous fans with a sharp eye will notice some cameo appearances by familiar faces…

Speaking of treats, you can read my shortie “Stacks” in WildFire, the All Romance eBooks newsletter for Sept 4, 2009. As the title suggests, this is a quickie set in a library. Enjoy!

KISSED Reviewed: Dark Divas

Dark Diva Reviews has given a FOUR Delightful Divas rating to I KISSED A GIRL! In addition to an overall assessment, reviewer Melissa offers reviews of some of the individual tales. For my story “Freckles” she says:

My Review of Freckles: Ms. Kempe has written a quick, very hot story in Freckles. Lea seems to be a practical woman, while Keegan is just a slob. I really liked Bridey, with her fun, outgoing personality. The passion between Lea and Bridey is explosive, and, well, Keegan is still a slob.

She’s right!

Melissa gives kudos to other stories like Inara La Vey’s “Champagne” and Regina Perry’s “Defining Lines” as well as saying of the entire collection that, “each story is very erotic and well-written. I would recommend this book to be kept handy, say on your nightstand, for those nights that you need a quick story to get your motor running.”

Yay!null

Chastity Praised

Wow — I may never quite come down from this one. Once again it’s the fabulous Adele, romance reader extraordinaire, AKA Hagelrat at Un:Bound. She reviewed Chas and had some really nice things to say:

“I’ve said it before (yesterday in fact) but Kempe is a delightful writer.”

and

“It has some tense moments and some genuinely tender ones as well as the very sexy ones.”

and

“A triumph I reckon, a genuinely intelligent, entertaining read; romantic, raunchy and *ahem* satisfying. I read it in one sitting, couldn’t put it down…”

Okay, one of the best comments I’ve had, especially for a short story:

Freckles – CM Kempe
adorable, sexy, brilliant. I am now a certified fan of Kempe’s writing. There is something sweet and innocent about our girl in this one which oddly doesn’t vanish when she gets involved in a threesome with her boyfriend.

Thanks to Hagelrat at Un:Bound, home of the Ravenous Romance Wednesday. She’s got some fine things about pal Inara LaVey, too:

Ripping the Bodice – Inara LaVey
Ok well this one i read cover to cover in one sitting. I loved out overly romantic heroine, too busy swooning over the handsome hero to notice the really sexy boy who she should clearly be with. Inara has a humerous and affectionate tone and her characters are a delight. Having written outside the genre she brings an atypical attitude to her story that drew me in and convinced me there might be more to romance novels than Mills & Boon covers suggest. If you want something a little more relaxed and natural with a bit of a wink to the camera then Inara is your girl.

Have to say I completely agree with that assessment. Ripping is a really ripping read! Check out the rest of what she has to say about some other Ravenous titles, too!

Reviews & Guest Blogging

Just an update: tomorrow I will be the official Ravenous Romance Wednesday @ Unbound author, so drop by and leave me some love — or at least comments. We always have a great time with host HagelRat and our RR wrangler, Dana/Inara.

We’ve garnered some great reviews for I Kissed A Girl. The latest comes from Amy at My Overstuffed Bookshelf:

WOW! If you don’t have a fan blowing on you before you start to read this, be sure to break it out! This book is an anthology of different short stories of Lesbian encounters. Now, I know I am only into men, namely my hubby. So I was comfortable with my sexuality enough that I had no problems or hesitancy in reading these erotic stories. They are well written, and they show how lesbian relationships are not something to be embarrassed by. This book breaks the wall down on sexual relations and the people who are afraid to admit their sexual fantasies.

Nice, eh?
